Terms of Service

These are the terms for using Voucher Valley. They are written to be read, not skimmed past, so we have kept them as short as a document like this can be.

Voucher Valley is an app for iPhone and Android, and the shared pool of Dunnes Stores vouchers behind it. It started life as a WhatsApp bot, and some members still use it there. When we say “Voucher Valley”, “the service”, “we” or “us” below, we mean the app, the pool and the WhatsApp service together: one account, one coin balance, one set of rules. By using any of them you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree with something here, please don’t use the service.

What Voucher Valley Is

Voucher Valley is a community pool. Shoppers upload Dunnes Stores money-off vouchers they aren’t going to use, and other shoppers take them out when they need one. Coins keep it fair: you earn coins by uploading and spend coins by taking. The app does three things:

  • Get: see what the pool holds in €5, €10 and €20 vouchers and take one, as a barcode on your screen for the till.
  • Scan: scan barcodes as you shop. The app keeps a running total with Dunnes’ prices and offers and shows when your cart has unlocked a voucher, so you can take the right one before you reach the till.
  • Upload: photograph a paper voucher, or pick a screenshot of one, and earn coins when it is accepted into the pool.

A few things it is not:

  • It is not a voucher generator. Every voucher in the pool was issued by Dunnes Stores to a real shopper and uploaded by them.
  • It is not run by, affiliated with or endorsed by Dunnes Stores.
  • It is not a group. Nobody else sees what you take or upload.

The service is for the Republic of Ireland only and vouchers work in Dunnes shops, not online.

If You Joined on WhatsApp

Voucher Valley ran on WhatsApp before the app existed. If you joined there, nothing is lost: sign in to the app with the same phone number and your coins, vouchers, history and plan are waiting. We are moving everything into the app. The WhatsApp bot may answer a voucher request by pointing you to the app, uploads over WhatsApp keep working for now, and a Pro subscription you bought on WhatsApp carries on as it was. When WhatsApp is switched off for good, we’ll tell you first.

Who Can Use It

You need to be at least 16 to use Voucher Valley and at least 18 to buy anything in it. You need a phone number with WhatsApp on it, because that is where your sign-in code arrives, and a phone running a supported version of iOS or Android. One person, one account. If we find several accounts belonging to the same person, we may merge or close them.

Your Account

Your account is your phone number. Scanning needs no account. The first time you take a voucher, upload one or open your coin balance, the app asks for your number and sends a six-digit code to it over WhatsApp. There is no password, so keep your phone and your WhatsApp account secure. Anything done from your number counts as done by you.

You can close your account at any time from Account in the app, or by emailing [email protected]. Closing it removes your remaining coins and vouchers, which have no cash value, and anonymises your data as described in our Privacy Policy. A Pro subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play has to be cancelled there as well, because we can’t cancel it for you.

Coins

  • Starting out: new members get 10 welcome coins.
  • Earning: you earn coins when a voucher you upload is accepted, and when a friend joins with your referral link.
  • Spending: a €5 voucher costs 15 coins, a €10 costs 10 and a €20 costs 5. €5 vouchers cost the most because they are the most wanted. Uploads earn the same amounts.
  • Buying: you can top up with coin packs. See Plans and Prices below.
  • Coins don’t expire, but they are not money. They have no cash value, can’t be transferred to another person or account, can’t be exchanged for anything but vouchers from the pool, and are not refunded when you close your account.

We may change what vouchers cost or earn in coins if the balance of the pool needs it. If we do, we’ll say so on the website and in the app before it takes effect, and coins you already hold keep their value for existing requests.

Uploading Vouchers

Upload from the Upload tab: photograph the voucher on your receipt, or pick a screenshot of the voucher from the Dunnes app. We read the value, dates and barcode from the image and, if everything checks out, the voucher goes into the pool and the coins are yours. When you upload:

  • It has to be yours. Only upload vouchers that were issued to you for your own shopping. Vouchers forwarded to you, taken from Facebook or WhatsApp groups, or belonging to someone else are not allowed.
  • It has to be unused and valid. Don’t upload a voucher you have already spent, or one that has expired. If a voucher expires today, upload it early so someone can still use it.
  • You are handing it over. Once a voucher is in the pool, someone else will use it. Don’t use it yourself afterwards. Doing so means the other shopper is refused at the till, and it counts as misuse.
  • You give us permission to use the image. We store it, read the voucher details from it, show the barcode to the member who takes it and keep a copy for as long as we need to run the service and sort out disputes. The voucher itself stays Dunnes Stores’ property, subject to its conditions.
  • Duplicates earn nothing. If a voucher is already in the system, you won’t get coins for it again.
  • Some uploads are reviewed by a person before coins are credited, and we can decline an upload we can’t verify. The Upload tab shows where each of your vouchers stands: in the pool, gone to a shopper, under review, duplicate or not valid.

Taking Vouchers

  • Hours: vouchers can be taken between 7am and 11pm. Uploads work any time.
  • What you see is what there is. The Get tab shows how many of each value the pool holds right now. If a value isn’t there, it can’t be taken, and we don’t hold queues or promise one later.
  • Take one when you’re about to shop, and only when you’re sure you are going. Vouchers are assigned earliest expiry first, so the one you get may need to be used soon.
  • From the Scan tab: when your cart unlocks a voucher, you can take it on the spot. If the pool doesn’t have that exact value, we may give you smaller vouchers that add up to it, and the coins charged are those of the vouchers you receive.
  • Limits: one €5 voucher per day. On Forever Free, taking a €5 also needs you to have uploaded a €5 since the last one you took. Forever Free members can take three vouchers a month; see Plans and Prices.
  • It’s for your own shopping. Don’t take vouchers for other people, and don’t sell, trade or pass on a voucher you got from the pool. If a friend wants vouchers, give them your referral link.
  • Pay it forward. When you spend a pool voucher in Dunnes, the till usually prints a new one on your receipt. We expect you to upload that one by the next day, and the app will remind you if you let it. On Forever Free, missing it costs 5 coins. Pro members don’t get that penalty, but the expectation is the same: the valley only works when people give back.

When a Voucher Doesn’t Work

Most vouchers work, but we can’t promise every one will. The pool is made of vouchers other shoppers uploaded, and the decision at the till is Dunnes Stores’, not ours. The success rates we quote on the website are averages, not guarantees for any single voucher.

If the cashier says a voucher is already redeemed, tap It’s not working on the voucher straight away, while you are still at the till and on the same day you took it. We refund the coins it cost you and, if the pool has one, give you another of the same value from a different uploader. The uploader is told and asked whether it was their mistake, and repeat offenders are reviewed.

Replacements are there for genuine problems. Reporting a working voucher as redeemed is misuse. There is a daily cap on reports, and going past it blocks your account from taking vouchers for at least 14 days.

We don’t refund the cost of your shopping, and we aren’t responsible for a decision made by Dunnes staff at the till.

Plans and Prices

Everyone starts on Forever Free: up to three vouchers a month using your coins, with the monthly count resetting on the day of the month you joined. Two paid options remove that limit:

  • Pro Day Pass: unlimited vouchers for the rest of the day you buy it. It ends at midnight and doesn’t renew. It comes with no bonus coins.
  • Pro: a subscription billed once a year. Unlimited vouchers, €5 vouchers without having to upload one first, 100 bonus coins for each month you are a paying member and no next-day penalty. First-time subscribers get a 14-day free trial. The first 100 bonus coins land with your first payment, not during the trial. Coins are still needed for every voucher.
  • Coin packs: 10, 20 or 45 coins, each with a Pro Day Pass for the day of purchase.

Current prices are on our pricing page and are always shown to you before you buy. Prices in the App Store and Google Play can be different from what the WhatsApp service charged, because the stores charge their own fees. All prices include VAT.

Paying, Renewing, Cancelling and Refunds

1. Buying in the app

Coins, Day Passes and Pro are sold in the app through Apple’s In-App Purchase or Google Play Billing. Payment is taken by Apple or Google under their terms, using the payment method on your store account.

  • Pro renews automatically every year at the price shown when you subscribed, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. A free trial converts into a paid subscription the same way unless you cancel before the trial ends.
  • Cancel any time in your Apple Account or Google Play subscription settings, or through Manage subscription in Account, which takes you there. Cancelling stops the next charge. You keep Pro until the end of the period you have paid for.
  • Refunds for anything bought through Apple or Google are decided by them under their refund policies. Ask them first. If you are stuck, email us and we’ll help where we can.
  • Restore purchases in Account brings back your Pro status on a new phone.

2. Subscriptions from the WhatsApp days

If you subscribed to Pro on WhatsApp before the app, your card is billed through Stripe and that doesn’t change. Manage subscription in Account opens Stripe’s page, and sending manage to the bot does the same, to update your card or cancel.

  • Pro renews automatically each year until you cancel. Cancel any time, and you keep Pro until the end of the paid period. We don’t give partial refunds for the unused part of a year, except as set out below.
  • Cooling off: within 14 days of a payment to us through Stripe, you can cancel by emailing us, and we’ll refund you less a fair amount for the days you have used and any bonus coins you have spent. Coin packs and Day Passes bought through Stripe are delivered straight away and are there to be used the same day, so once delivered they can’t be refunded.

Coins bought in a pack are credited to the same balance as coins you earn, and the rules in the Coins section apply to them too.

Referrals

When a friend joins through your referral link, you both get 10 coins. You can invite up to 10 friends. Referring yourself, inviting people who don’t exist, or paying or pressuring anyone to join is not allowed, and we remove coins earned that way.

Fair Use

Voucher Valley runs on trust between strangers. Please don’t:

  • upload vouchers that aren’t yours, are used, are expired, or have been edited;
  • use a voucher after you have uploaded it;
  • report a working voucher as already redeemed;
  • sell, trade or pass on vouchers from the pool, or run a business on top of the service;
  • run more than one account, or use someone else’s;
  • use scripts, bots or automation to take, upload or scrape;
  • probe, overload or interfere with our systems, or try to get around limits and checks;
  • be abusive towards the people who run the service.

If you break these rules we may, depending on how serious it is: warn you, remove coins earned through the breach, hold your uploads for review, pause your account for a period (14 days is typical), or close it for good. Serious or repeated misuse can mean losing your coins and paid plan without a refund, to the extent the law allows. If you think we got it wrong, email us and a person will look at it.

Dunnes Stores and Their Vouchers

Voucher Valley is not affiliated with Dunnes Stores. The vouchers are issued by Dunnes under their own conditions: a minimum spend, an expiry date, excluded products and whatever else is printed on them or in the Dunnes app. Those conditions apply to you when you use a voucher, and it is your job to check them. Dunnes may change how their vouchers work, or stop issuing them, at any time, and if that happens the service will change with them. We may also have to limit or stop the service if Dunnes Stores asks us to.

Prices and Totals in the Scanner

The Scan tab looks items up in Dunnes Stores’ online catalogue and adds up what you scan. That total is a guide to help you reach a voucher threshold, nothing more:

  • Shelf prices and offers in a particular shop can differ from the online catalogue, and the till is always right.
  • Some items are added by other shoppers by hand. We review them, but we can’t promise every name and price is correct.
  • The app follows Dunnes’ published rules on what counts towards a voucher, but it can’t see your receipt. If a voucher doesn’t print at the till, that is between you and Dunnes, and a pool voucher you took on the strength of the total is still yours to use or not.
  • The app is not a source of allergen, nutrition or ingredient information. Read the packaging.

Availability and Changes

We work hard to keep Voucher Valley running, but it is a small service that depends on the app stores, WhatsApp for sign-in codes, our hosting providers and, above all, on members uploading vouchers. We can’t promise that a voucher will be available when you want one, that the app will always be up, or that any feature will stay the way it is. We may add, change, pause or remove features, limits and plans. If a change matters to you, for example a change to what coins are worth or to a plan you pay for, we’ll tell you in advance where we reasonably can, in the app, by notification or on the website.

Our Responsibility to You

Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have as a consumer under Irish or EU law, and nothing limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law says we can’t limit.

Beyond that, we provide the service as it is, and we aren’t responsible for:

  • a voucher being refused, already redeemed, expired or not accepted at the till;
  • the cost of your shopping, or a discount you expected but didn’t get;
  • price or total errors in the scanner;
  • losses caused by Apple, Google, WhatsApp, Stripe or another service we rely on being unavailable;
  • indirect losses, or losses we couldn’t reasonably have foreseen when you started using the service.

If we are found responsible to you for something, our total liability for all claims in any 12 months is limited to the amount you paid us in those 12 months, or €50 if that is more.

Our Name, Our Code, Your Content

The Voucher Valley name, logo, app and website belong to us. You may use them to use the service and for nothing else. The vouchers themselves and the Dunnes Stores name belong to Dunnes Stores. Voucher images you upload stay yours, and you give us the permission described under Uploading Vouchers to use them for running the service. Items you add to the shared product database by hand are shared with other shoppers without anything that identifies you.

Privacy

What we collect and why is in our Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The current version is always at this address with the date at the top. If a change is significant we’ll tell you through the app before it takes effect. Using Voucher Valley after a change means you accept the new terms. If you don’t, you can close your account.

Law and Disputes

These terms are governed by the law of Ireland, and the Irish courts can hear any dispute about them. If you have a complaint, talk to us first: most things get sorted with an email. As a consumer you can also contact the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) for advice.
